What Happens after LASIK Surgery

After undergoing LASIK, you will notice your vision will become clearer. The operation takes only a few minutes. However, you should also keep in mind that there is what you call recovery period, which is just as important as the procedure itself. The LASIK recovery process is quick, and without really causing a lot of hassle to the patient. This is one of the reasons why people prefer it over other types of vision treatments.

LASIK utilizes laser technology. What it does is to burn the tissue found in the stroma which causes problems with your vision. Since it does not require cutting or wounding of tissues, you do not need a long time for the healing to take place. After the surgery, you can report to work the next day.

After surgery, you will be told the following:

1. Recovery period is only 48 hours however your eye surgeon will tell you to rest another 48 hours, totaling 4 days.
2. You will also be required to wear an eye shield in order to prevent bacteria and other harmful elements to get into the eye, which might cause infections.
3. You should expect side effects such as: dry eyes, glare, and halo in vision. Such effects will naturally go away without the need for medication.
4. During the recovery period, you are not allowed to rub the eyes even if you feel discomfort or itchiness.
5. You will also be advised against engaging in any strenuous activities. Sports activities that may involve physical contact are also to be avoided.
6. You will not be allowed to use make up or cosmetics for a few days.
7. Moreover, you cannot go swimming or bathing in whirlpools for at least a month.

LASIK surgery recovery is painless and hassle-free. If you follow your doctor’s advice, you should not encounter any complications or problems after the surgery.
