Have you ever heard of the Bates Method? This was coined many, many decades ago when Dr. William Horatio Bates made a brave claim saying that there are ways to improve your eyesight without seeking medical help. Dr. Bates said that your vision problems can be improved by natural means, without having to use eyeglasses and contacts, and doing away with surgery. How? This is through various eye exercises and relaxation techniques.
The Bates Method
The first thing you need to do to improve your vision is by simply taking a break from the things that cause stress and strain to your eyes. Although there are concerns and questions being raised, many claim that this method has helped them improve, or even get rid of their vision problems.
Dr. Bates based his method on the psychological principles that govern the human mind and body. It centers on relaxation of the body and mind in order to get rid of stress and strains that are accumulated in the eye muscles and the eye itself. This was mentioned in a book he published in 1920 entitled “Perfect Sight without Glasses.” An eye exercise mentioned here is the “palming exercise” wherein you will use your palms to cover your eyes and block away light.
In the Bates Method, visualization is also mentioned. You will need to think about pleasant mental images. According to Dr. Bates, if you close your eyes, you become more relaxed if the “black” portion is relatively small when visualized.
Other forms of eye exercises can be done such as:
1. Eye rotating exercises
2. Eye focus exercises
3. Eye swinging exercises
If you use these, you can be sure that your eyes and eye muscles will become more relaxed, with stress and strain significantly reduced, paving the way for a better and improved vision.
